KANPUR: Due to changing lifestyle, food habits and increasing stress among generation Y, more and more people are taking help of yoga as the way towards leading a better life. A recent survey conducted by Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM) has revealed that the number of yoga enthusiasts has more than doubled in the last ten years.
The number is expected to grow more in the coming years.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), around 350 million people all over the world are affected by depression and which is the leading cause of disability Worldwide. The lifestyle changes have resulted in rising cases of obesity and diabetes.
The survey further disclosed that about 14.3 million people in India practised yoga in 2013, while only 6.3 million in 2001. "Yoga relaxes one's whole mind, body and soul and helps maintain balance between the three. It is not only the greatest stress buster, but is also an effective therapy option. The changing lifestyle in people has resulted in increased stress among them. More and more people are opting yoga as a way towards betterment of life. It imparts mental, spiritual, and physical well being," said Manoj Kapoor, a yoga enthusiast.
The recent study also predicted that increasing awareness about the traditional Indian ways of dealing with stress in the corporate sector, has improved job opportunities in yoga training with commensurate demand for trainers set to grow by 30-35 per cent in the couple of years. " The mushrooming of yoga centres in the city will undoubtedly open employment opportunities for the coming generation," said Charu Gupta, a local.
